Latinas Acting Up

Latinas Acting Up is an organization created by Latina actresses Diana Maria Riva and Lisa Vidal. They came together and formed LAU during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. They continued to fight for months to help create sustainable wages and safety for Latina SAG members. Now that the strikes are over, they continue to create platforms for Latinos. They provide resources to highlight minority media-makers, as well as resources to fight for worthy causes like equal pay. There is now over 500 registered members of the community who are able to "connect, collaborate, and have access to panels, resources, and mentorship". They even extend their platform to other entertainment unions, such as WGA, IATSE, and more.

I first heard of Latinas Acting Up amidst the SAG-AFTRA strikes. Being from florida (and also being non-union), I was frustrated that there was little I could do to help show my support. That is, until my mom showed me Latinas Acting Up (Not to flex or anything, but they even responded to one of her comments on Instagram) and I got excited again! I realized that even if I can't actively be there and march with them, just by being an avid member of my community I am encouraging positive change! LAU is one of the many organizations I am consistently checking in with to do my part until I get the privilege of being in the room where change happens!
